Youth Sports Day

In our stake we have a yearly tradition of holding a sports day for the youth of all 11 wards in our stake to compete against each other as wards to see who the best sporty ward is. There's even a floating trophy!

Now that I'm serving in the stake I have the opportunity and privilege to help organize all youth activities throughout the year. So together with the youth committee and a counselor on the stake presidency we spent the past 2 months planning the 2012 sports day held this past Saturday. And you know what, we pulled it off successfully, just look at the smiles on those faces!

The youth participated in human snakes and ladders, water balloon volleyball, touch rugby, old school medley relay and river crossing with tiles. By the sounds of the shrieks and cheering and laughter, it sounded like they enjoyed every second. They even brought flags to represent their wards which they waved boldly whilst they took turns competing.

Looks like the old adage stands true: a little competition never hurt anyone!

This year Mdantsane 3rd ward won, surprising because during their first sport - touch rugby - they passed the ball like netball...hahaha!

2 journalists even attended from Mdantsane to write an article on us for one of their township magazines.

At the end of the day though all that truly matters is that the youth form friendships with those in other wards, that they leave feeling happy to be part of a Church whose youth uphold high values (even whilst playing games), and to have good old fashioned clean fun!

I'd say, mission accomplished.
