The Mugg & Bean experience

By now you've probably caught on that we're not 'typical' people. Instead of contributing toward the mass chocolate Easter egg consumption, we ditched those tasty treats filled with chocolatey goodness and headed to Mugg and Bean for a lazy Saturday afternoon lunch date. M & B has a special place in our hearts (as corny as that sounds) as it was our favourite place to gaze into each others' eyes whilst eating scrumptious food when we first started dating. We used to love to eat their sun dried tomato soup, until one day they took it off the menu and replaced it with a bowl of dark brown stuff that smelt like asphalt and tasted something like that too. Here's a pic from the ol' 'dating days archive':
I think they called it mushroom soup. Can't be sure though. This memory still cracks me up!
If you ever find yourself in Safrica, you have to at least have one meal at M & B. This time, J had a cobb salad and I had the tomato and basil soup (for old times sake).
Oh and we're happy to report the asphalt soup is officially OFF the menu.

He lives!

To all on this very bright and cheery morning, Happy Easter! We hope you all enjoy this brilliant long weekend reflecting on the Bread of Life, our Saviour and Redeemer of the world, our reason to hope- Jesus Christ. Take comfort in knowing that He lives and loves you beyond comprehension. We know that through his Atonement, we can repent, be forgiven of our sins, and find solace and peace. Grahamstown golf day

*Sigh* Oh, the things we do for love.....Yesterday J was invited to one of his customers' golf day in Grahamstown (about 2 hours from our town). Grahamstown is home to masses of students from Rhodes University and the world renowned St Andrews College. To promote one of his agencies, namely SIKA, J organized a stand and some prizes to be handed out to the passing golfers at the 10th hole. Only prob was he needed someone to hand out said prizes whilst he was playing golf. Since I had a day off from work, I went along to help further promote this awesome agency which specializes in waterpoofing products. We left a very overcast and rainy E.L and were overjoyed to enter a very hot and sunny Grahamstown. J thoroughly enjoyed his round of golf and I enjoyed sitting in the stall wearing a big yellow raincoat, reading to my hearts content, and handing out little prizes to those who hit their golf ball onto the fairway. For dinner they fed us tasty steak, boerewors, salad, and the best potato bake I've ever had in my life. J even won a a camping gas stove for participating in the game. What an awesome day away from the mundane activities of everyday life.

Camp 'We Believe'

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday was the annual E.L 3rd Ward Young Women camp. Since I am a YW leader, I roughed it in the 'wilderness' for those nights with our awesome girls and loved every minute of it. The sun shined, we had plenty of food (and biscuits - most important), we completed the certifications in record time, had awesome bonfires, camp songs and skits, and endless entertainment from those crazy but loveable young women. We structured the camp on the youth theme for this year which is the 13th Article of Faith. I really love these girls. I learn things from them all the time about how to persevere midst trials, and enduring when there is no support. These pioneers of the Church are my heroes, and I'm extremely grateful to know them and be able to serve them. They really are the best exemplars of AoF 13. On the morning we had to pack up and leave the rain came down in bucketloads! We had to strike the tents in the pouring cold rain, yet it was one of the most fun experiences of all. We laughed, we fell, we got soaked to the bone, we huddled around a stinky campfire warming our appendages and rejoiced when our rides came to pick us all up. J's first words me were, "You smell like you've been hanging at a shabeen!" Lol he was right! First thing I did when I arrived home was jump in a shower and wash that stinky raincoat - trouble is it still smells like smoke! Crikey! A price definitely worth paying though for all those great memories.

The DIY skills of Mr. W

2 weekends ago we J decided to complete the job our 'table maker' was supposed to do - varnish it. We were tired of the white marks that slightly resembled drug powder that surfaced on the table after a few days at a time. So, with a brush and a tin of varnish we scored for cost price from an associate of J's, he sanded that sucker down and gave it 3 coats of shine. Now it is beautiful, powder free, and waterproof. Looks like J could teach 'table maker' a thing or two!
