View from here

And by 'here' I mean the gym...
So what if the equipment is old and has sweat stains on it? So what if their air conditioning system consists of two sub par floor fans attached to poles? So what if majority of its clients wear the same clothes they worked out in the day before? This can be overlooked with one glance at that spectacular view. Nothing beats running at top speed whilst watching ships docking at the harbour or watching the waves crash against the rocks along Eastern beach.

Majority of my gym's clients have left to sign up with the brand new gym in Beacon Bay, including J man! Sure their equipment and overall atmosphere is a trillion times better, but you can't see that in BB, can you!

This makes working out simply a pleasure :)

J's perfect Saturday

When J informed me Friday eve that on Saturday morn he'd be watching rugby, I was ALL for it - after all, what's a little rugby match in the grand scheme of the weekend? Right?

Well that little rugby match turned into a couple more, followed by a snoringly boring cricket match. Apparently South Africa played well. I wouldn't know though because all I heard was white noise (that's what rugby and cricket sound like to me...).

Midday J announced, beaming from ear to ear, "This is MY perfect Saturday!" Bless!

Honestly it was a good Saturday, the sun shone - allowing me to bask my ghostly pale legs and mismatched socks in its hot hot rays (love EL winters!), we got to relax from a long tiring week, and we even stopped for a pancake lunch! Who knew J was such a pancake artisan! This skill will definitely come in handy from now on! This whole weekend has been quite a revelation of sorts in that even though we are from the same country, we seem to use different terminology.  After I made batter for the pancakes, J was surprised and a little disappointed that they weren't his kind of pancakes. I was confused. I thought a pancake was a pancake.

They were marvelously delicious, however, pancake or not. To top J's perfect Saturday off, he attended a Priesthood meeting, I read 80 Psalms in preparation for Monday's seminary lesson, we ate omelette's for supper (thanks J, again!) and watched Red Riding Hood (we're a tad behind in movies...).

Love days like this!

Perfect Saturday

To be a perfect day, it must consist of a) people I love b) good food c) plenty of laughs. Not too much to ask is it!

When Saturday morning rolled around, we slept in late, buried deep in the comfort of our warm duvet. It was pouring with rain and we felt grateful just to be in bed, listening the pitter patter on the windows.

As soon as I hauled myself out of bed to let Molly dog out for her morning ritual of taking care of business, I made little handouts attached to fizz pops for my seminary students to remind them of classes resuming on Monday morning at 6:00AM sharp! There are only 9 more weeks of seminary to go where we will finish studying the books of Esther to Malachi in the Old Testament. Come the second week of September they'll be learned boffins of the O.T. Quite an achievement, especially in 2012. In November they shall receive their course completion certificates and I'll have taught seminary for 4 years!

By 9:00AM J made an appearance in the lounge, and we promptly devoured our cereal. Best way to start the perfect day! And by 10:00Am we headed to Beacon Bay to run some errands and then to Hemingways to commence the search for a new winter coat for me, to spend J's clothing vouchers at Edgars that he received for his bday. J scored a pair of shoes for R25!! Bargain of the year! We also found an awesome grey and purple coat for me, which wasn't exactly a bargain, but it's super nice.

We then went to Boykies to spend his voucher he received from the W snrs, also as a bday gift. Boykies is down the road from us and it opened last year. We would never have paid it a visit had his parents not given him a certificate. The exterior of the building is brown...not the most appealing colour. To our surprise though, they serve such tasty, well priced food! We even took some venison biltong home to snack on later. The rest of the day was spent snuggled under blankets, watching everything from rugby to New Girl.

This really was the perfect day.

Sweet, sweet Monday

Whilst some people loathe Mondays, I actually look forward to them. To me they are an extension of the weekend, just like everyone wishes they were. Lucky me! I set my schedule up so that I don't have to go in to teach at the 'office' but rather teach from the comfort of our home. Additionally I use it to run errands, study, organize the house, proofread documents, bake, and work on things required for my callings.

One of my goals this year has been to take Molly dog on plenty of walks - whether at the beach or around the hood. Every Monday I make sure Molls gets her hour walk in and oh how she loves it!
Granted most of the time it's more like she's taking me for a walk...
She takes me to visit with her favourite dogs around the corner. She loves to sniff flowers and stare at foreign objects like this tortoise we saw in somebody's front garden. Her little eyes were glued to this creature and we literally stood there for 5 minutes just watching it munch on grass.
Haha the best part of taking her for walks is that she is completely knackered the rest of the day = no mischief. :)

Feeling poorly

The change of seasons has definitely done a number on me…

So much so that I spent the whole weekend tucked up in 4 fleece blankets and the duvet, napping, and sipping on a mixture of OJ and meds that make me a tad loopy at night. We’ve had some interesting bed time conversations thanks to Coryx . J said one night I sat up and frantically started looking for ‘the other puppy’. Last night I persistently asked J what our contingency fee was and made a mental note to remember it till morning. Contingency fee?!?! I don't think I've ever said that word before until last night! Haha!

Since I was a child I have never been one to take naps during the day; my body just cannot unless I’m mega sick. So I tried my best to but I felt like my mind was going to explode thinking of the all the things I wanted to do but couldn’t. After weighing up the options I settled on working on family history since I can work from the comfort and warmth of our bed. I had a great time browsing several different censuses from England and Wales for the North and Haywood families. Even found a map of where Amelia North and her fam lived in Luton, Bedford, England in the 1800’s. Although the house doesn’t exist anymore due to the bombings of WWII, it’s a good indication of where it once stood: 43 Castle Street. I love me some history! Especially when its history about my family.

Pray tell, what do you do when you’re sick in bed?

Must.Capture.Life

At the beginning of this year I was determined to take plenty of photo's to document our lives. Well that goal has been tossed out the window due to an incredibly hectic, packed-to-the-brim schedule that often leaves me feeling dazed and completely knackered. It's already May and we hardly have any photographs with our live human selves in them...so today is the day I shall start (again) to take more photographs. When I do get around to take a picture though it is so much more convenient to whip out the ole (or new) BB than a proper cam, even though the quality is negative 1000. Who really carries around a camera with them anyway? If you do then you must have a big handbag, and I'm the kind of girl who prefers using my pockets. Beat that.
As mentioned in this post, J and I like to keep each other up to date with our lives via BBM. Here are 4 pics recently taken with our phones for the purpose of sharing our lives.
  • "Russell" the female Jack Russell who lives at the B&B J lives in when on business.
  • Admiring the pretty colours of the sky whilst driving through Southernwood on my way back from seminary at 6:50AM. Incidentally, where those beautiful colours shone is where we live. hahah!
  • Scouting around for a bday gift for the lady I visiting teach and J home teaches. Settled on this wee box of decadent brownies.
  • Sleepy Molly bird watching me study Russian history.

This is what we do...

This past week we were lucky enough to have a 5 day weekend! So what do we do in 5 days of no work? Well we work. Haha! We built a fence, painted the fence, and built a jungle gym. It was intense but rewarding. No longer can Molaylay the crazy dog escape out the big white gate. Our lamb chop has started 'in heat'...not the greatest thing to have to deal with... Our lil pup can potentially become corrupted, so in effort to keep her virtue in tact the fence fully encloses her in the back garden. Check that off the stress factor list.
On Tuesday was 'Workers Day'. Thank you government! We spent the day with the W's having a tasty lunch (braaied steak, worsies and salads! YUM!) and playing Settlers of Catan: Cities and Knights. What a fun game!
I'd say it was a weekend well spent. And holla for the weekend we've just hit! Awesome times ahead!

Seeds

Last weekend. Sigh. It was brilliant! We fed ourselves with spiritual and physical seeds of sorts.

Finally it was Africa's turn to watch our Church's annual General Conference where we heard from our prophet, President Thomas Spencer Monson, his counselors, the twelve Apostles and other General Authorities. They gave us counsel on how to improve ourselves to become more like our Saviour and what to do to prepare for His second coming. We love that as conference approaches we specifically pray for certain counsel and every.single.time our prayers are answered.

Last week during one of our stake meetings, our stake president reiterated the need for self reliance and making sure we are contributing weekly to our personal food storage. I have felt for the past few months to put more effort into it as petrol went up a couple weeks ago. That affects everything. So like a diligent little soul I have been researching, rotating, re-organizing and stocking up on everything from earbuds to baking soda. One of my goals this year that I carried over from 2011 (clearly I'm brilliant at keeping resolutions...haha!) is to plant veggies. We don't have our own plot of soil, but we are now owners of a planter of soil with some wee carrot seeds that I whisper sweet somethings to everyday, encouraging them to grow. Weird much?
With another project in the pipeline, I am determined to grow my own food so I can stop shovelling out our dime to Checkers who rip us off. Here's to hoping it actually grows...

A weekend of...

...relaxation to the max!

It's official, Easter weekend is my favourite! Rarely do we have the opportunity like we did this Easter to put our feet up on the couch, watch enough television to last us for the next 500 years, eat tasty food, walk the hound, and enjoy each other's company.
Our microwave officially gave up the ghost so we invested in another, we laughed until our stomachs ached over words on urbandictionary.com, watched every show we wanted to catch up on and even shows we really couldn't care less about but watched them anyway (for e.g. Everybody Hates Chris!?! man alive...), baked a peach dessert together which turned out to be divine (yes yes you were right J! haha!), ditched expensive Easter eggs for slabs of Beacon choc on sale for R5.99, ate ice-cream from Steers, L prepared a 5 min talk for church on Sunday on the life of the Saviour (yes, a 5 min talk on his entire life lol!), gave said talk, cuddled under fleece blankets, bought new lights for the driveway, taught Molly a lesson and gave the dawg a bone...

One of the best things about this Easter was that my perspective broadened somewhat about life...in the grand scheme of existence, this life is very very very very very very short. Did you get that? Its very short. Very short and incredibly significant. As I sat pondering about life and how decisions determine destiny, I thought that it is in my best interest to make the best choices that will get me to where I want to dwell for eternity with J and my Saviour and Father in Heaven. Sure I've known this all along, but this weekend it sank in a little deeper. So I encourage everyone, no matter how old (or young), if where you are in life isn't going to bring you eternal joy, do something about it. Pronto.

L's winter plan

I love the fact that E-town has great weather. Summer is boiling hot, perfect for the beach. Spring is warm, perfect to lounge around in the garden, soaking in the warm rays.

But dear E-town, what happened to autumn!?

Folks, we’ve just dived from boiling hot to MEGA COLD in the span of a week! Every year I keep telling myself to prepare for the cold. Then I convince myself that I am prepared and consequently freeze to the bone. So this year WILL be different. I am determined to face winter head on and NOT be cold. Sadly in Safrica there is no central heating system in houses or practically anywhere really. So that leaves me grasping at any bits of warmth I can find…

With that said, here’s the plan:

1) Purchase electric blanket (I refuse to sleep in that tomb of a room without one this year!)
2) Invest in some fuzzy socks
3) Become best friends with FLEECE
4) Several mugs of hot choc is a MUST
5) Wear gloves
6) Stock up on hand lotion, lip ice and eye drops
7) Do all uni and other work in bed, with the electric blanket turned on and a mug of hot choc next to the bed.
8) Use the foot machine thing…hahaha, helps my PVD and circulation.

This is one plan I definitely intend on sticking to. Come rain or hopefully plenty of shine!

Anyone else feel number than ice during winter? What do you do to stay warm?

B-U-S-Y

So this year started off with unexpected assignments and non-stop busyness! It’s the first week of April and really with all this non-stop activity going on it feels like it should be December already!
In January I was re-assigned to teach the early morning daily seminary class. This has been a truly wonderful experience to prepare lessons everyday, study the Old Testament and teach those bright eyed and bushy tailed young men and women every morning at 6:00! You'd think I'd be tired waking up at 5:00Am everyday but in all honestly I'm motivated and energized everyday when the alarm clock sounds. Obviously as a teacher I feel that I learn way more than my students do, but I sure hope they are internalizing the principles of the gospel. So far we have studied The Pearl of Great Price and Genesis - the first 11 chapters of Leviticus. We are smack bang in the middle of Easter school hols so we have a 2 week break before we dive head first in the next few books. Schools open again next Tuesday. As I'm re-reading the wonderful stories in the Bible I've developed a new found love for some of the prophets and people of old and have been touched by their demonstrations of faith. People like Abraham, Rebekah, Rachel, Sarah and Joseph inspire me to be a better person and to handle the trials I am faced with in life with similar grace.
In February I was released from my ward calling in the Young Women presidency. By February I was feeling rather exhausted with adapting to my new schedule and studying and adjusting my work schedule due to an increase in English students (any other teacher out there who also works during school hols? yikes!). So when this release came, as sad as I was to not be super involved with the Young Women anymore, I was rather relieved. And then 3 days later I was called into a meeting with a member on the Stake Presidency who extended the calling as a councilor in the Stake Young Women Pres! HAHAH! I laughed! But accepted with zeal, knowing that this is what the Lord wants me to do right now. This calling is TOTALLY me! I get to travel to various parts of the Stake 2-3 times a week. So branches and wards in our stake are 2-3 hours away from our town! Anyone who really knows me knows how much I love going to new places and meeting new people. So far I have travelled to Ilinge and Mthatha. Next on the list is the township Mdantsane! The people in those 2 branches I have been to are so humble, so willing to adapt and learn, and each person has the desire to live the gospel and draw closer to the Saviour. It is humbling. After each visit I feel dually inadequate and inspired to try harder to be more like the Lord. I'm telling you, once again I feel that this is a selfish calling in that I'll be learning more from others than they will be from me.
In between all this buzz of STUFF, I've been tackling the most difficult modules for my degree to date. Crikey! Who knew there was SO much theory about writing a story!?! It makes me wonder who REALLY had THAT much time that they felt to fill pages and pages of a book with what in all honestly is useless information. HAHA, I guess my professors don't agree. I've had assignment after assignment due, and finally, after this afternoon when just a couple hours ago I submitted my analysis of Dario Fo's Accidental Death of an Anarchist for my Italian module, I am one step closer to finishing assignments for the semester. 1 more to go for Russian. Phew!
It is with great eagerness that I look forward to this upcoming long Easter weekend to sit back, relax, not analyse a text, eat good food, prepare a talk to give on Sunday, cuddle with J & M, and reflect on the Saviour's atoning sacrifice. Me thinks it shall be swell!

Every day of February

Wow, what a challenge to take a pic of every single day. Crikey.
February has been a great month for us. We've seen many blessings and felt much joy.
It has also included:
  • Plenty of tasty food
  • Molly's shenanigans
  • Studying
  • Preparing seminary lessons
  • Rain and intense heat
  • Hard work
  • Hot dogs for dinner every.single.weekend. hahahaha!
  • Exercise
  • Laughing
Yep, its been 29 days of good times!

V day the W way 2012

This V day J was on a busineness trip to Port Elizabeth. So on the afternoon of Sunday the 12th whilst he was fulfilling his calling in Mthatha branch, I packed his suitcase in prep for his trip early next morning and placed little hearts and a love note tucked sneakily inside one of his shirts for a surprise on Tuesday.

Being that I now teach early morning seminary at 6:00 AM, the night before V day I made a tasty batch of cupcakes and decorated them with bright pink icing for my diligent and inspiring 14-19 year old students who quickly devoured them.

The real V day celebration was last night, the 15th. I made the most tasty chicken cordon bleu using this recipe (so easy and 100% divine!), served on pepper and corgette flavoured basmati rice, with a side of carrots. For dessert - cupcakes of course.

Sure, this may be a low-key kinda V day, but it was perfect for us. Talking about our day's experiences and how much we love each other over a tasty meal is our kinda thing.

That awkward moment...

...when you're at a friend's birthday party, 30 guests in attendance, and you look down and realize...

I wore a different shoe on each foot.
Not sure where my brain was yesterday.
Thank goodness it's back today!

Ultimate workout for champs

Did anyone else gain weight after they got married? Hahah, seems like a natural process...marriage --> eat all the food you 'weren't allowed' as a kid --> and then carry that stigma with you around the midriff.
Well, J's goal for 2011 was to lose that extra weight and he did it! He lost over 12 Kg's...which is a lot! 5 days a week he awoke mega early to burn those calories off at our beach side gym, Body Classique and ate a consistent diet of loads of fresh fruit and veg, less red meat and more fish and skinless chicken  and by not eating carbs at night. Later in the year he joined his mate Mark at his home gym who whipped him into shape even more. See, Mark was a body builder and won loads of competitions so he has major muscle memory. Consequently, J is in ship shape, very healthy, confident, and has TOP VEINS! Haha! I really am so proud of his great accomplishment. His hard work has paid off! That said, just because he's lost the kilo's doesn't mean you'll find him sitting on the couch eating crisps. He has developed a real love for exercise and developing muscles.

It's because of his good example and for something to do that I also joined the gym around the middle of last year. Not with any intention to lose weight (then I'd be unhealthy), but to tone up. Admittedly I haven't been in..well lets just say a while...haha...but now after watching my favourite sport - tennis in the Australian Open, I'm super keen to get back to toning. One look at those iron-fisted women and I'm ready to hit the weights! After identifying my body shape to maximize workouts, J so kindly offered to draw up a power training schedule. Take a look at both of our training schedules for the next few weeks below:

L
 J
So far my muscles are burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrning everywhere! This is good though! It's the best kind of pain!
The key to any training of course is to switch it up, make smart food choices, drink plenty of water, and please for the sake of all mankind, wash your gym clothes. :)
Here's to a healthy, fit and toned 2012!

A visit to Frere

There are many brilliant aspects to our beautiful seaside town. One look at the surrounding dazzling blue ocean and the smell of salty water confirms that this is pretty much the greatest place to live. There is evidence of the Xhosa and English culture everywhere - from the vendors selling handmade African treasures to upmarket retail stores. Our town is known for its friendly people. No matter who you are, you are considered a 'mama' if you're a grown/middle-aged/elderly woman, a 'sisi' if you're female, 'boetie' if you're a male, or a 'dada' if you're a grown/middle-aged/elderly man. People will greet you by these names and perhaps even ask how you are. There is a laid-back vibe to the city where no one is in any particular rush, and if you are, well there's no traffic so you'll get to your destination on time. We may not have the most entertainment, and goodness knows if you want to go anywhere 'fun' at night then you better go before it closes at 18:00. However, we are a nation who loves to socialize over a braai or enjoy the nature on our doorstep. With hot summer days, warm summer nights, and slightly cool winters but colder nights, there's nothing really to complain about E.L.

If there were something though that I'd change about our city, I'd urge the government to put more money in the upkeep of our government hospital, Frere Hospital. This hospital provides medical care for the poor. Last night for our weekly youth activity, the 4 of our young women and 2 of us leaders went to Frere in aim of visiting those children who do not usually have visitors. If you could see inside of this health care facility you'd be as shocked as I was: Paint chipping on the walls, lack of organization, the almost outdated supplies and machinery used to help patients, how entire rooms are filled with patients in beds all with various ailments crammed together...Yes, I realize this is a government funded hospital, but much can be improved to help save lives in this place.
http://www.townshiptimes.co.za/?p=1008
I was pleased to see that majority of the sick children in the hospital had their mothers or a family member sitting by their bedside. It made me sad to see those little ones hooked up to machines, fighting for their lives. Immediately I was drawn to the cots of twin 4 month of baby boys. A nurse was busy feeding fortified milk in a syringe to one of them whose body was covered in a skin infection. In the cot beside him, his brother was crawling (4 month old!) around looking up at us with the widest, innocent little eyes. Their little bodies, so tiny and trying to fight off various infections, made me feel instantly grateful that I have a healthy body. The little boy who had just finished his milk dinner started to cry, yet the nurse couldn't pick him up and cradle his sweet little body in her arms as she could spread the infection he had to the other children. This little boy has to learn to soothe himself. I wanted to hold him. I wanted to love him. What was truly heartbreaking was when we learnt from the nurse that these twins were abandoned. Nobody visits them.
When their infections clear up, social services will take them away to live in an orphanage. And you know what, they'll most likely remain there until they're old enough to care for themselves, that's how many orphans are in our country. There are too many to place into willing families. When it comes to cultural barriers that may be off-putting when considering adopting a baby of another race, seeing these little boys confirms that nobody deserves to grow up like that. They are people, they need love and affection. Race and culture shouldn't prevent anyone from caring for children whose parents didn't want them. If anyone understands the impact of race and culture, ask any South African. It's what we deal with everyday. This has been a lesson learned for me.

Something as small as a visit to a government hospital really opens your heart and makes you grateful for what you have. No matter how difficult you think the issue's you're currently facing are, take a look around, there's somebody else suffering in a way you have never had to experience. That in itself is a blessing.

What's on the PVR

Seriously, one of the greatest inventions EVER (well according to us W's anyway) has to be the PVR. Thanks to this genius service it has changed the way we watch television. Let's face it, who really has time to schedule their lives around viewing shows? We've had a crazy week back at work and serving in our church callings so the PVR has been storing the shows we want to watch most, which really isn't much to begin with.
So here's a little peek at what's on our PVR:
  • South African comedian Trevor Noah appeared on Jay Leno's Tonight Show. Our whole country loves Trevor and we're super proud of his great accomplishment of sharing his talent with the world. Here's a tiny clip of some of his hilarious act.
  • Mr Bean's Holiday: There's something about Rowan Atkinson portraying Mr Bean that I adore and can never grow tired of seeing.
  • The Tourist: This film is fantastic and we'll definitely watch it over and over and over and over...
  • The Big Bang Theory: J likes this show more than I. He finds Sheldon's musings knee-slapping funny, whilst I find it annoying. haha!

  • Top Gear: Jeremy Clarkson and his team are highly entertaining. Who knew a show about cars could be so interesting!

The first of the first of 2012

Our last moments of 2011 were spent with the Clarke's and their fam and friends braai'ing the life out of various cuts of meats and devouring Annaline's tasty potato bake, salads, bacon rice, and brown sticky pudding with cream. At 11:30PM. everyone decided to go home...yes, we were at a Old Year's Eve party and guests left before midnight...I thought that was kinda weird. But just kinda. We stayed however and yelled 'Happy New Year' outside at the top of our lungs to all the world, kissed and sipped Grapetiser. Then I promptly fell asleep on the couch whilst J and M played a game of 'saving the world'. We finally fell into a sleep coma in our own home around 2:30AM. I'd call it a great start to a new year. :)
With each year brings the prospects of an unknown future, with hidden surprises and its own dose of challenges. It also gives us the opportunity to create a list of resolutions on becoming a better person and things we'd like to accomplish in the year. We're rather laid back so planning more than a week in advance is really quite a stretch. And whilst we each have our own personal resolutions,  this year we've decided on a couple 'for sure' things to put on our list that we'll get around to some time this year. These include:
  • Travel somewhere (excluding Gonubie J! haha!)
  • Save up for a grown-up fridge.
  • Magnify our callings.
  • Make the effort to serve others in a greater way.
  •  Make at least 3 Temple trips
Haha that's it...you see we have more of the 'Come what may and love it' attitude. Whatever does happen this year though we are assured that if we have positive attitudes, keep our faith in the Lord strong, and strive for excellence in all we do then 2012 will not disappoint.

2011 Reflections

Our year started off with this post with a visit to the LDS Johannesburg Temple. We started the year off right, with new goals, fresh perspectives. The last line of the post says:
"We have a feeling 2011 will be a year of learning. Bring it on."

Good glory, 2011 has indeed been a year of learning! In short, here are some things we've learnt:
  • How to communicate better.
  • How to handle challenges we'd never thought we'd experience. Through these challenges we've made new friends who have helped us develop new perspectives.
  • We've learnt how to be better friends by judging less and lending a more listening ear.
  • How to make crispy roast potatoes (thanks Stayci!) and other delicious treats and dinners (thank you Pinterest!)
  • To gain a deeper appreciation for our bodies and life by exercising, visiting various doctors (ask us medical questions, we have learnt a lot haha!), eating healthy foods (cutting carbs out at dinner time!) and reading about other peoples' experiences (thank you bloggers of the world!).
  • How to care for a puppy when both of us aren't 'dog people'. Little Molly has been a sweet addition to our fam.
  • Patience -- with ourselves, each other, friends, associates and with God's plan for us.
  • How to do our jobs more effectively, making us more successful. J has excelled in selling Sika and improved his relationships with many of his customers. L has learnt how to teach English to people of all ages and principles of the gospel.
  • To be more frugal, yet enjoy life! We enjoyed trips to Kei Mouth, JHB, Grahamstown and Port Elizabeth this year with friends and family.
  • To appreciate time with family and friends. With L's fam living with us for a few months and spending more Q.T with J's, we've really loved every minute spent with them. We are grateful to have been born into the fam's we are. Our parents are our role models; our brothers our great friends. We've also had the privilege of spending lots of time with our close friends the Gosling's, Clarke's, Van Heerden's and others.
  • To appreciate the beach...we live 5 minutes from the ocean but hardly ever go there haha!
In addition to lessons learned, we've had a year full of brilliant memories. Here's a few of our faves:
Folks, 2011 has been good to us. Thank you to everyone who added to its awesomeness.
And here is to 2012! Happy New Year everybody!

December to-do list

Since I went on leave from one of my jobs at the beginning of December I made a to-do list of things I've been itching to tackle since I started exams. Haha, on a side note, does anyone else make a list of goals/tasks/resolutions at the beginning of a new year to complete by at least the end of it? Somehow I always only start these things mid year and cram them all in December to make sure they get done by the 31st just so I can then start the new year off with a new list. I think the point of this is completely lost on me hahah! Anyway, back to this to-do list, whilst it really isn't THAT long, I clearly could have completed it all within the first couple weeks but didn't. Life happens I guess. So with a week and 2 days left to finish it off here is my December to-do list:
  • Sand desk, stain & varnish it
  • Get basket to replace broken drawer
  • Organise under the sink
  • Finish wedding scrapbook
  • Complete DVD for youth
  • Make 2010 slide show of us

Oh Murphy's Law, you really know how to deal a hard blow.

How about you, any to-do lists you need to finish off before 01/01/2012?
