Getaway to Kei Mouth

Last weekend we were blessed once again to be able to go away to Kei Mouth for the long weekend with the W Snr's. We stayed at the awesome Kei Sands Resort on the beach. You can imagine our surprise when this is what we saw upon arrival:

Chocolate sea! Awesome. So the weather and natural elements weren't ideal, seeing as it rained most of the time, but we did manage to relax, read, spend time with the family playing various board games and cooking, watching Top Gear and sports. Of course the sun came out on Monday when we left. These sort of occurrences only happen to us. Here are some highlights from the weekend in pictures:

If you can keep yourself awake for long enough, you'll be able to see this rare sight just outside of Kei Mouth:

That's right, a pink airplane, perfectly named "Eish Airlines", because as you approach it your first words will most likely be 'eish, is that a plane?' It sits on a private farm next to a private school...why they need a plane and train carriages is quite the mystery we weren't able to solve, seeing as sign on the farm's exterior gate said "PRIVATE PROPERTY, NO TRESPASSING".  Other things worth mentioning about this getaway: we awoke to an intense domestic fight at 4:50A.M on Sunday. There was some confusion on Sunday night when 3 people congregated outside our flat to discuss getting hold of coast guards as flares were going off at Morgan Bay. False alarm though. Also, try play Boggle late at night! Hilarious!! This getaway was just another reminder of the importance of enjoying every second of life, finding joy in the simple things, and what family means to us.

Waterpolo is not for sissies

And J is definitely NOT a sissy! In fact, he's a brilliant waterpolo player! Back in the day when he attended Hudson Park High School, he was on the waterpolo first-team as goal keeper. He thrived at it and longed to play again. So when a buddy called and invited him to play on what L calls the 'old boys' league on Wednesday nights, he jumped at the opportunity. So for the past few weeks at 20:00 we've headed down to the Joan Harrison where J has been honing his waterpolo skills, while L cheers him on in the stands (and takes sneaky photo's!). Check out this good man in action:

The Cafe Basil experience

Last Friday we did something we only used to do when dating...we went out for a lunch date! It was after a busy day of work, the sun was cooking, and we decided to be spontaneous and enjoy life by eating at Cafe Basil. This cafe recently moved a couple blocks up from us in Berea. It is decorated in a totally eclectic style, and if you see the owner you'll realize why... J had a tasty breakfast tortilla, and L had an open halloumi cheese, baby marrow, and bell pepper sandwich on ciabatta bread. In a word: scrumptious. After scoffing down those tasty meals, we indulged in a piece of chocolate cake (just for the record it wouldn't have made it on the themoistcake.co.za). What a fun date! Mini Youth Convention

This past Saturday L spent the entire day with 12-18 year old LDS young men and young women at the stake mini youth convention. It was incredibly well organized, well attended, the youth participated enthusiastically, and the food (Ma Uni's curry bunnies) was delectable! Activities of the day: learning the 13th Article of Faith off by heart, 13 AoF Sudoku, pulling taxis race (hilarious to watch!), design Mormon Ads, shoot targets with paintball guns, and a scripture Amazing Race. L just loves all the youth of E.L 3rd ward. They brighten up her life!
